This piece explores the idea of spectacle as a tool used by those in power to distract the public from the imminent downfall of a society or government.

Knowing the concept I wanted to work with, I began by roughing out some small thumbnails to experiment with the composition and placement. When I had settled on a few that felt right, I developed them into rough sketches so I could see what the characters and scene might look like.
I chose the sketch that I felt best represented the mood and message I wanted to convey, and then made some small digital edits to improve the composition. This gave me a strong foundation on which I could base the digital painting.
